WE ARE RETIRED PROFESSIONALS WHO HAVE ALWAYS HAD AT LEAST ONE DOG IN OUR LIVES. RASCAL, OUR TERRIER MIX, AND SUKI THE SHIH-TZU ALWAYS TRAVELED EVERYWHERE WITH US. AS BOTH WERE GROWING OLDER AND RASCAL’S HEALTH BEGAN TO FAIL, WE DECIDED TO BRING IN A NEW PACK MEMBER. opTING for A LARGE (BUT NOT TOO HEAVY), NON-SHEDDING, HIGHLY INTELLIGENT, AFFECTIONATE, well-rounded BREED, MY CHOICE WAS QUICKLY LIMITED TO STANDARD POODLES. AND SO MY SEARCH BEGAN. AT THIS POINT, Barney was to be our only poodle.............
the more I RESEARCHED the breed, the more OBVIOUS it became: METICULOUS CARE WOULD BE NECESSARY TO FIND a breeder who was NOT ONLY HIGHLY reputable and met our other specifications, BUT ALSO WHOSE POODLES WERE WELL-CONFORMED and thoughtfully bred from parents with EXCEPTIONAL TEMPERAMENTS. WHAT I THOUGHT WOULD BE QUITE SIMPLE turned into a lengthy search. This, combined with how we immediately fell in love - not only with Barney but also with the breed itself - led us to the decision to become breeders.
Six months after barney’s arrival, Sacha joined our family. This summer, we traveled cross-country for our second red girl, Summer.
We attend age-appropriate training classes with all three, including beginning obedience, rally O, agility, transition (competition) obedience. our back yard is filled with agility and rally equipment. In short, our lives have gone to the dogs!
Prior to breeding, all available testing, genetic and otherwise, will be completed, with results available on the OFA website. All of our Poodles have also been DNA tested for color. Barney, Sacha, and Summer are BBeeDD with hidden black, meaning that their breeding will produce shades of red and apricot (no blacks) with black points. Neither their coats nor their puppies’ coats should fade (although according to the DDC it seems there may be yet another determining gene peculiar only to poodles) and none carries the gene for brown - i.e., we expect all black points in our litters.
A huge debt of gratitude and my sincerest appreciation goes to Lori Horst of harmony mountain, our poodles’ breeder, our future co-breeder.
